Any anime, manga and even Japanese drama fans know that Japan is famous for having colorful festivals (matsuri) althroughout the year.
The most well-known and colorful festivals are held during the spring and summer time. And Urawa in Saitama is just one of the many places in Japan where summer festivals are held. So, here is a look at a fun summer festival in Japan!
Because the weather is at its best during the summer, people take the opportunity to dress up their neighborhoods with colorful decorations. Many hang up lanterns outside their establishments and many colorful signs go up to advertise the different booths.
An attractive feature of summer matsuri’s is the attire that visitors come in. It is a fun and light time of the year and many people love the opportunity to dress up in colorful as well as floral summer garments called yukata’s. Everyone’s family and their friends come to the festival to take part of many different activities.
There are many games available for both children and adults can enjoy. Scheduled throughout the festival also are some traditional dance presentations and taiko drum shows! If you stick around, you will also catch some street parades featuring many different people showing off their best yukata and dance moves!
And of course, what festival is complete without a lot of delicious food! A countless number of snack stalls are set up that sell different foods, from full meals to delicious sweets and desserts. Some of the food may be sinful, but it is enjoyable to indulge in one or two, especially during this fun time of year.
