Yokohama is quite a full city of attractions, but a must-visit spot for any Japan Lover is the CUP NOODLES Museum1x1.trans CUPNOODLES Museum at Yokohama

You would be surprised that there is a museum solely dedicated to the instant noodle, but this is Japan and one of the things they are best known for is the creation of these tasty, instant meals. Not only will you get to see a lot of variety when it comes to instant noodles, but you will also be able to learn a lot of interesting facts and history about the creation of the cup noodle. These are facts that you didn’t think would be too interesting, but really fun to learn!

First off is the Instant Noodles History Cube. Here you will see a graphic re-telling of the history of the instant noodle, from its humble origins from a single serving of chicken ramen into its evolution of more than 3,000 product packages developed in just half a century—that’s a lot of ramen!

You can also see an exhibition about the creator of instant ramen, Momofuku Ando. The exhibit is a visual history of his life and relationship with food creation. This is linked to the Creative Thinking Boxes exhibit, which gives you a glimpse into the process of creation that goes into the conception of new, innovated ramen variations.

Another way of learning about the history of CUP NOODLE and Momofuku Ando is in the Momofuku Theater. A CG animated film tells the history of instant ramen and the six keywords that guided Momofuku Ando in his creative thinking.

Now, if you want to try your own hand and creating some new variations of ramen yourself, then be sure to stop by the Chicken Ramen Factory. Have a hands-on learning experience in making your own bowl of ramen, right down to making your own ramen noodles! Elementary school children can participate for just 300 yen while junior high school and up can make their own chicken ramen for just 500 yen.

After you create your own noodles, it’s time to create your own cup noodle packaging! The Cup Noodle Factory offers you this chance to create a one-of-a-kind packaging just by selecting from the different soups and ingredients available. There are 5,460 ingredient combinations available so, chances are, there will be nobody in the room will have the same cup of ramen! The participation fee for this exhibit is only 300 yen for everyone, so it is worth a try!

There is also a special treat for kids that want to experience first-hand the process of noodle making. The CUPNOODLES Park is an interactive way of learning about the process. Kids can go through different play areas that simulate the process from a noodle’s point of view. The attraction is roughly 30 minutes long and is only 300 yen per slot.

And of course all that learning about and making ramen will be sure to get your stomach rumbling and craving for some, so a stop at the NOODLES BAZAAR! This is the best opportunity to try different kinds of ramen, like those from the journey of Momofuku Ando. This night market feel is fun and is a great way to end a full day of cup noodle immersion and learning!

Don’t forget to bring some memories home with you. Pass by the souvenir shop. The shop is overflowing with ramen and instant noodle-related goodies. Everything from chopsticks to notepads, as well as a variety of limited edition ramen! It will make you want to hoard and try out all the flavors!

I’ve been to the Instant Ramen Museum in Osaka, but this one seems much bigger! It was still quite fun though – making your own instant ramen cup was awesome, AND it turned out to be tasty! (I enjoyed eating Hiyoko-chan’s face especially, hahaha…) … Seriously, I think this is one of the cases where original is the best – Nissin makes one of, if not the, best instant ramen ever. Gotta visit this one if I get a chance in the future! :D (Not sure if this one has it but I heard the one in Osaka has classes avaliable for making the actual noodle?? Requires advance bookings though. :()
